About Upgrading Emulab

If you are upgrading an existing Emulab, you will have to contact us. We have not yet come up with step-by-step instructions for doing an upgrade.

If you are upgrading from 10.1 or 10.2, the upgrade path should be fairly smooth, involving the standard FreeBSD tools freebsd-update and pkg.

If you are upgrading from 10.0, the upgrade path is a little more bumpy as freebsd-update does not update further than one rev back. Contact Utah for some notes on what must be done.

If you are upgrading from pre-10.0, you are in a world of hurt. Not only must you upgrade 2+ revs of FreeBSD, you must upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. It has been done by people other than us, and there was a write up about the experience on the emulab-admins google group.

If you are installing a new Emulab testbed, continue to Designing Your Network.
